Hat Man
And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished, for the small hours were rent with the screams of nightmare. ~H.P. Lovecraft
Hat Man is a being that exists among the shadows and darkness. His (if it even is a he) only notable feature that tells him apart is his signature hat. Said hat varies from witness to witness; top hat, fedora, straw, bamboo, but most often a boater hat. Some dreamers have argued that there could be multiple Hat Men.
He is rarely seen, but when he is, his presence strikes greater fear in the dreamer than that of the other shadows. He is always standing still and merely observing the dreamer from a distance, even if other shadows are moving, thus it is thought that he does not attack the dreamer (at least directly).
Some believe him to be a malicious demon who induces paranoia or a bad omen, others, a neutral force who is simply watching over our dreams for an unknown reason. Much speculation remains on the Hat Man as his existence remains ever so shadowed in darkness.
