"I peer and I stalk,

Looming over your troubles.

I look as you walk,

Fleeing from your double.

You look at me and stare,

Stricken by fright.

I am well aware,

I am the thing that goes bump in the night.

I take the form of many,

Things that horrified you then and now.

From family to demons,

Things that make you frown.

Nights, sleepless nights,

Causing mind to tear,

Serve as a cruel reminder,

That I am always right there.

Irrepressible guilt and shame haunt

Your waking life,

For it was not them who were unfair,

It was your fault,

And you are well aware.

I peer and I stalk,

Looming over your troubles.

I look as you walk,

Fleeing from your double.

You look at me and stare,

Stricken by fright.

Oh I am well aware,

I am the thing that goes bump in the night."
